Enclosure 2.

COPY.

Sir,

Central Market,

Hongkong, June 10th.,

1907.

In answer to your letter No. 3802 of the 3rd instant, I have the honour to inform you that owing to the lapse of time and to the fact that I have kept no books, I am unable to furnish any further particulars in explanation of the sources from which I obtained money. I, however, remember that in the year 1902 I won sums of money at the races amounting to about $600 and the following year I won sums amounting to about $250. I enclose a receipt for £93 which I collected for Mrs. Perkins in the year 1904 and when she left Hongkong in August 1904 she left a Piano in my house for my wife to sell for her, as it was not sold in the auction; my wife sold the Piano for her at the end of 1904 for 150 dollars and as I was going on leave in the early part of 1905, I sent her a cheque for 15 Pounds when I arrived in England receipt enclosed.

I would also mention that when I came to Hongkong twelve years ago I had a little money and for some time I was able to save, and when my wife came here in the year 1899 she had money of her own and at times has money sent her.

I have etc.,

(sd.) Charles F. T. Brett.

J. M. Thomson, Esq.
